2017 U20 World Cup winner with England reacts to first Nigeria call-up
Published: March 05, 2022
2017 Fifa U20 World Cup-winning winger with England, Ademola Lookman has reacted to receiving his first ever call-up to the Nigeria national team.
The Leicester City star has been named in a 25-man Super Eagles squad list for the 2022 World Cup playoff matches with regional rivals Ghana later this month.
Last month, football's governing body Fifa approved his application for a one-time change of association from England to Nigeria, where his parents originally hail from, paving the way for him to earn his first invite to the national team.
It must be said that Lookman's maiden invite to the Super Eagles did not come on a platter of gold or through the influence of those upstairs at the Nigeria Football Federation as he has been in impressive form for Leicester City in 2021-2022.
With a goal involvement of ten (6 goals, 4 assists) in 28 all-competition appearances for the Foxes, he is close to equaling his career best of twelve (8 goals, 4 assists) he set in the 2017-2018 season.
Writing on Twitter, Lookman said : "And so it begins my first call up and can’t wait to represent my country. See you soon Naija."
Lookman previously represented England at U19, U20 and U21 levels and is no longer age-eligible to represent the Young Lions.
