Son of former Gombe United player makes PL2 debut for Chelsea in loss to Manchester City
Published: March 01, 2025
Chizaram Ezenwata, son of ex-Gombe United player Ndubuisi Ezenwata, has played his first game in the Premier League 2 in his final season as a schoolboy.
The England U17 international of Nigerian descent was in action for the last seven minutes as Chelsea were beaten 5-0 by Manchester City at the Joie Stadium on Friday night.
Besides Ezenwata, three other teenagers of Nigerian descent were in action, with Landon Emenalo starting in defence for the Blues and Justin Oboavwoduo logging 79 minutes for Manchester City before being replaced by Michael Okeke.
With just three minutes played, Divin Mubama scored from the spot to put City ahead and their second goal did not arrive until two minutes into the second half when Matty Henderson-Hall rattled in a shot after a poor clearance from Emenalo.
Chelsea were in trouble in the 52nd minute as Mubama touched the ball in from the goal line for 3-0 and things got worse for the Londoners in the 67th minute when the England U20 international headed in a cross from Emilio Lawrence.
After Mubama saw his effort ruled out for offside, Ryan McAidoo wrapped up the scoring with a brilliant goal in the 86th minute.
Chizaram Ezenwata has notched seven goals in twelve appearances for the U18s in the league and FA Youth Cup this season.
