Manchester United could indirectly fund Chelsea's move for Super Eagles striker

According to respected French sports newspaper L'Equipe via Football Transfers, Chelsea's bid to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen could receive a significant financial boost if Manchester United succeeds in signing Blues' bench-warmer Christopher Nkunku in January.

Newly appointed Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim reportedly identifies Nkunku as the perfect fit for his 3-4-3 formation, and the Frenchman is open to the move, having struggled to secure starting minutes under Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

The Blues aim to use the funds from Nkunku's transfer, hoping to recoup nearly the €60 million they spent, to pursue a deal for Osimhen.

The potential sale of Nkunku would provide Chelsea with the necessary funds to revive their interest in Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in September after failed deadline-day transfers to Chelsea and Al-Ahli. 

Napoli inserted a break clause in Osimhen's Galatasaray contract, allowing them to sell the striker in the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old has impressed at Galatasaray, since his arrival from Italy. His loan deal, worth €10 million, covers his salary until June 2025. 

The Nigerian striker's impressive 2022-23 campaign, where he led the Neapolitans to their first Scudetto in more than three decades, hasn't gone unnoticed. 

Chelsea's pursuit of Osimhen, initially hindered by financial constraints, may now materialize if Manchester United secure Nkunku's signature.

The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner is expected to lead the line for the Super Eagles when they take on Republic of Benin and Rwanda in their last qualifying games for the 2025 AFCON, with the three time African champions needing only a point to advance to the biennial tourney.
