Talented striker Musa scores scores brilliant back-heel goal for Man Utd on EFL Trophy debut
Published: November 13, 2024Spanish-born Nigerian striker Victor Musa scored on his EFL Trophy debut on Tuesday night but his goal counted for nothing as Manchester United U21s were beaten 4-1 by the first team of League One club Huddersfield Town.
Four players of Nigerian descent were on parade at John Smith's Stadium, with Musa and Habeeb Ogunneye starting for the Red Devils, while former Flying Eagles invitee Freddie Ladapo and David Kasumu entered the game as substitutes for the Terriers.
Huddersfield Town's Ben Wiles unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box to open the scoring in the 29th minute, but the teams went into the break on equal footing as Musa leveled for Manchester United.
The Spanish-Nigerian starlet back-heeled in a near post cross that was delivered by Ethan Ennis on the right-hand side in the 42nd minute, after Mickel Miller was muscled off the ball by Ogunneye.
It was a nicely executed equalizer by Musa, adding to his recent heroics when he scored United's winning goal in their 3-2 triumph over Forest Green Rovers in the National League Cup last month.
A header from Rhys Healey made it 2-1 before late goals from David Kasumu and Tom Lees sealed a handsome victory for Huddersfield Town.
The 18-year-old Musa appeared in seven matches for Manchester United U21s over the course of the 2023-2024 season.
