Former USSR POTY: Ex-Chelsea ace Moses only Spartak player capable of playing for Zenit
Published: October 27, 2021
Former USSR Footballer of the Year, Evgeny Lovchev believes ex-Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses is the only player currently in the Spartak Moscow squad capable of playing for Zenit St. Petersburg.
Lovchev made the disclosure after Spartak Moscow suffered a scandalous 7-1 defeat at the hands of Zenit in the last round of matches in the Russian Premier League, a game in which Moses was on parade for 72 minutes.
The ex-footballer and coach turned pundit underlined that only Moses is on the same level of the St. Petersburg club.
The retired Nigeria international won the Europa League, Premier League and FA Cup during his nine-year association with Chelsea and also counts Inter Milan, Liverpool and West Ham United among his previous employers.
"In what light do you give yourself away when you lose like that ?! It's a shame, bitter," Lovchev said in an interview on the YouTube channel of the famous commentator Gennady Orlov, according to Bob Soccer.
"Spartak today is not sufficient to fight Zenit. In this Spartak there is only one person in the playing class, who could be in Zenit today. This is Moses".
Since joining Spartak last October, initially on loan before the deal was made permanent in the summer, Moses has directly participated in 11 goals (4 goals, 7 assists) from 34 appearances.
