U17 Euros England 2 Israel 1: Two Players Of Nigerian Descent Debut, Saka Wins Penalty
Published: May 04, 2018England toppled Israel 2-1 in their opening game of the 2018 UEFA European Under-17 Championship played at the Proact Stadium, Chesterfield on Friday evening, with as many as four Nigerian youngsters starring for the young Three Lions.
Manchester City's Nathan Ogbeta who made his debut for the team, Arsenal duo of Xavier Amaechi and Bukayo Saka were included in Steve Cooper's starting XI.
Talented Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun was handed his Young Lions debut off the bench in the 58th minute, Chelsea's Tino Anjorin and West Ham's Ajibola Alese were unused substitutes.
Enterprising winger, Saka was on hand to force a penalty from the opposition after 29 minutes, paving way for his teammate, Tommy Doyle to open the scoring from the spot.
Though Israel equally grabbed a goal of their own through a penalty, Matty Daly finished off a lovely team move which involved Amaechi to put England back into the lead, eventually seeing out the win.
In the Group A standings after the first round of games, Italy who beat Switzerland 2-0 earlier are top of the pile while England take up the second position.
