Another goal for Iwobi against favourite opponent Wolves but Fulham suffer biggest loss of the season
Published: November 23, 2024Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi scored against Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Premier League clash at Craven Cottage on Saturday, but his goal proved irrelevant as Fulham suffered their biggest loss of the season, ultimately losing 4-1.
Iwobi's stunning left-footed curling shot showcased his skill and precision, marking his sixth career goal against Wolves—more than any other team he has faced at club level.
The match began with an electrifying pace, and it was Iwobi who struck first in the 20th minute.
After a clever build-up, he received a pass from Tete, maneuvered into space, and unleashed a beautiful shot into the far corner, sending the Fulham fans into a frenzy.
However, Wolverhampton responded with determination. Just eleven minutes later, Cunha leveled the score with a remarkable finish.
He made a brilliant run to meet a long ball from Lemina, expertly controlling it before flicking it past the keeper from inside the box—an impressive display of composure and skill.
The second half saw Wolves continue their momentum, and in the 53rd minute, Joao Gomes added to their tally with a fantastic left-footed strike.
Picking up a cleverly disguised through-ball, he executed a low shot into the bottom corner, leaving Fulham's defense scrambling.
In the 87th minute, Cunha scored again with an incredible strike that found the top corner of the net.
After having the ball played to him, he expertly wrapped his right foot around it from the left side, just outside the penalty area.
The ball curled and dipped majestically over Leno, who could only stand and watch as it nestled into the top right-hand corner of the goal.
Then, in the 95th minute, Guedes, who had just entered the match, neatly slotted the ball home with a low right-footed shot that defeated Leno into the bottom left corner.
He made a dynamic break down the right flank during a quick Wolves counter-attack and showed clinical precision in front of goal, ensuring there was no doubt about the outcome.
Iwobi has been in an incredible form for Fulham this campaign, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 14 games across all competitions.
