Arsenal 0 Man City 3: Iwobi Benched, Tosin & Nmecha Not In 18, Argentina Duo Start
Published: March 01, 2018Arsenal suffered their second defeat in five days to Manchester City on Thursday evening following their 3-0 loss in their rescheduled Premier League at the Emirates Stadium.
Super Eagles winger Alex Iwobi was not selected in Arsenal's starting XI, dropping to the bench instead while young Manchester City defender Tosin Adarabioyo and teammate Lukas Nmecha were not included in the visitors 18-man squad.
Manchester City broke the deadlock inside the opening 15 minutes, Leroy Sane picking out Bernardo Silva after making a probing run, with the Portuguese placing a precise finish into the top corner.
Pep Guardiola's side from there on showed their clinical edge in the final third and it was Sergio Aguero who provided their second of the night, laying on for David Silva to smash home in the 28th minute.
It was three for the runaway league leaders with barely 35 minutes on the clock, Kyle Walker leading the charge now to roll in for Sane who made no mistake with his finish as City continued to capitalise on every opportunity they had with ruthless efficiency.
The second period brought even lesser joy for Arsenal who were afforded a lifeline from the spot after Henrikh Mkhitaryan was clipped in the area by Nicholas Otamendi but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saw his effort kept out by
Ederson as Manchester City became the first side to beat Arsenal three times in the same season since Chelsea back in the 2005-06 campaign.
