Michael Owen sends message to PL: Credit Arsenal's third goal to Trossard not as an Ndidi own goal

Liverpool icon Michael Owen has suggested that the Premier League Goal Accreditation Panel should award Arsenal's third goal against Leicester City to Leandro Trossard instead of it being ruled as a Wilfred Ndidi own goal.

The Goal Accreditation Panel determines the goalscorers in the Premier League where the identity of the person who got the goal is open to debate.

A club can appeal against a decision to the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Appeals Panel, who will review the footage and come to a decision.

Arsenal dug deep to beat the Foxes, needing two late goals in stoppage time, with Trossard's second goal eventually going down as an Ndidi own goal.

After the Gunners were denied on numerous occasions by the outstanding Leicester City goalkeeper, Mads Hermansen, they were able to take the advantage four minutes into stoppage time when Bukayo Saka’s cross met Trossard, whose shot ricocheted off Ndidi and crept into the net, before Kai Havertz scored to put the gloss on the Arsenal display.

Owen has argued that Trossard's effort was on target and the Belgium international should be credited with the goal rather than being recorded as an Ndidi own goal.

Asked whether the goal should have been awarded to Trossard, Owen said on Premier League Productions post-match: "Yes. We'll put it this way, if I was Trossard I won't be too happy. I thought as much as it probably wouldn't have gone in without Ndidi's touch, I don't know how you can say it wasn't going on target, it's going towards that back post area.

"Anyway it was Ndidi that got it in the end. Very difficult for the goalkeeper."

In the six-goal thriller a the Emirates Stadium, Gabriel Martinelli scored Arsenal's first goal at minute 20 and Trossard made it two in the first minute of first half stoppage time.

It looked to be plain sailing for Mikel Arteta's side but Leicester had other ideas after the break as two goals from James Justin, the second a stunner assisted by Ndidi, saw them equalize, before two stoppage time goals by the Londoners.
