U17 EURO: Arsenal kid Obi-Martin named in Denmark squad; hopes to emulate Victor Moses, Solanke
Published: May 06, 2024Arsenal super kid Chidozie Obi-Martin is set to represent his country of birth in his first major tournament following his inclusion in Denmark's squad for the 2024 European U17 Championship, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Danish Football Union confirmed the 20-player squad list on Monday, with the prolific Arsenal U18 striker among the players heading to Cyprus later this month.
Obi-Martin is heading into the tournament in a rich vein of form, having netted in eight consecutive matches in the U18 Premier League to take his tally for the season to a remarkable 29 goals.
The Glostrup native recently broke Folarin Balogun's record for the most league goals scored by an Arsenal U18 player in a single season.
Since making his debut for Demark's U17 national team in a friendly against Norway in August 2023, he has tallied ten goals in fourteen appearances for the age group.
During the tournament in Cyprus, Obi-Martin will be hoping to emulate two active Nigerian players with a Chelsea connection in the shape of Victor Moses and Dominic Solanke, who were the top scorers of the U17 EURO in 2007 and 2014 respectively.
Denmark are in Group B of the European Championship and will do battle with Austria, Croatia and Wales in the group stage.
There could be two Nigeria-eligible players in action on May 26 when the Danes face off with Austria as the highly-talented Red Bull Salzburg striker tipped for great things, Oghenetejiri Adejenughure has been included in Austria's final squad.
