Chelsea ready to use Lukaku plus a young player as makeweight in their efforts to sign Osimhen
Published: May 05, 2024Premier League giants Chelsea have not given up on their pursuit of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen.
According to Sky Sport Italia journalist and renowned transfer market reporter, Gianluca Di Marzio, Paris Saint-Germain and also Chelsea are battling to sign the reigning African Footballer of the Year.
Osimhen extended his contract at Napoli last December with a release clause in the region of 130 million euros which must be triggered before the Parthenopeans can agree to terminate their contract with the number 9.
Di Marzio has informed that Chelsea have opened a line of communication with Napoli over the signing of Osimhen and prepared to do a swap deal to sign the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner.
The Blues are ready to include Romelu Lukaku plus an unnamed young player as makeweight in the proposed deal to sign the Nigerian to drive down his asking price to around 90 million euros.
Giovanni Manna, Napoli's incoming sporting director, is an admirer of Lukaku and attempted to sign him for Juventus but was unsuccessful, with the prolific Belgium international opting to join Roma on a season-long loan instead.
It is very clear that the former Manchester United and Everton striker is not in the plans of manager Mauricio Pochettino, so Chelsea want to get him off their books this summer.
Osimhen has scored 75 goals and registered 18 assists in 130 appearances across all competitions since landing at Napoli in 2020.
