Chelsea monitoring the situation of soon-to-be free agent Nigerian defender
Published: May 04, 2024Premier League giants Chelsea have emerged as the latest suitor for Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo, according to Italian journalist and transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano via 90min.
The 26-year-old Nigeria-eligible star is out of contract at Craven Cottage this summer and is expected to be highly sought after by top clubs across Europe.
The Man City academy graduate has been on the radar of several clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, AS Monaco, and Milan, but Chelsea's interest has added a new dimension to the transfer saga.
The Blues are in dire need of defensive reinforcements, particularly with the news that Thiago Silva will depart at the end of the season.
Despite being sidelined with a groin injury earlier this season, Adarabioyo has made a strong comeback, featuring in 25 games for Fulham and scoring twice.
His impressive form has caught the attention of the 2021 UEFA Champions League winners, who are desperately pushing for next season's European places.
However, Chelsea face stiff competition from European clubs like AS Monaco, who can offer Adarabioyo a pre-contract agreement.
Newcastle United, another Premier League suitor, may need to offload players to meet financial fair play regulations, which could impact their chances of signing the Fulham defender.
Adarabioyo's situation is being closely monitored by top clubs, and it remains to be seen where he will ply his trade next season and it's quite certain that he will have no shortage of options.
