Chelsea switch attention to top Man Utd striker target as alternative to Napoli star Victor Osimhen
Published: April 25, 2024Premier League giants Chelsea have switched their attention to RB Leipzig's promising striker Benjamin Sesko, following reports that Paris Saint-Germain are on the verge of securing a deal for Napoli's Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen, the Nigerian goal-scoring sensation, has been Chelsea's top target for some time, with his impressive record of 74 goals in 129 appearances for Napoli making him a highly sought-after asset.
However, it appears that the London club will miss out on his signature, as PSG are reportedly prepared to trigger his release clause of approximately £130 million.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via TEAMTalk, the Blues have now set their sights on the 20-year-old Benjamin Sesko, who has been making waves in the German Bundesliga with his impressive performances for RB Leipzig.
The young Slovenian striker has already notched 14 goals in 38 appearances this season.
Sesko's rapid development under Leipzig manager Marco Rose has caught the attention of several top clubs, including Manchester United, who are interested in securing his services, setting up an intriguing transfer battle between two of the Premier League's biggest clubs, with Leipzig determined to hold onto their prized asset for at least another season.
Leipzig have slapped a hefty price tag of €50 million on Sesko and it's uncertain if either Manchester United or Chelsea will be prepared to match it.
The summer transfer window promises to be a critical one for Chelsea, with the club facing financial constraints and the likelihood of manager Mauricio Pochettino being replaced.
The arrival of a new striker to provide competition for Nicolas Jackson is seen as a top priority, and Sesko's emergence as a viable alternative to Osimhen could prove a shrewd move for the Blues.
