Arsenal loanee Okonkwo keeps 14th clean sheet of the season as Sturm Graz reach OFB Cup final
Published: April 07, 2023
Super Eagles-eligible glovesman Arthur Okonkwo impressed as Sturm Graz reached the final of the OFB on Thursday after a 1-0 win over LASK at the Merkur Arena.
The on-loan Gunner posted his fourth clean sheet since his arrival in Austria in the January transfer window.
Okonkwo's clean sheet against LASK was his fourteenth this season, with ten coming in the colours of Crewe Alexandra, where he spent the first half of the campaign.
The Hale End Academy graduate has caught the eye, so much so that Sturm Graz are working on extending his loan deal for an additional season.
After a goalless first half, Tomi Horvat broke the deadlock with a brilliant left-footed shot from outside the box in the 68th minute.
Okonkwo made some outstanding saves during the game and the highlight was when he parried a free-kick from LASK's Peter Michorl in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time.
The Anglo-Nigerian and his Sturm Graz teammates will face Rapid Vienna in the OFB Cup showpiece on April 30 in Klagenfurt.
