'Not a bad team' - Eguavoen explains what's holding Arsenal back from Premier League title

Former Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has weighed in on Arsenal’s Premier League aspirations, suggesting that their success depends on the club’s objectives at the start of the season.
For the third consecutive season under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal appear to have faltered in the Premier League title race, now trailing leaders Liverpool by fifteen points with ten matches left.
The Gunners' failure to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window has left them at a disadvantage in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal are without a recognized centre-forward for the remainder of the 2024-2025 campaign, with Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz suffering season-ending injuries.
"It depends on what the objectives are. When the season starts, teams have their board meetings with the entire staff and players, where you want to be at the end of the season," Eguavoen said on Home Turf.
"Maybe Arsenal chose the top four, maybe they want to be champions, so they will now work around what their objectives are."
Eguavoen acknowledged Arsenal's quality but was surprised by their failure to win the league title under Arteta, while also admitting he is unaware of the club's internal decisions.
"What do you need to do? As far as I am concerned, Arsenal is not a bad team, not at all. By all standards, Arsenal should be winning the league by now. Where they are now, maybe they are comfortable.
"I'm not in the Arsenal Board, depends on what they are comfortable with."
This season's shortcomings will be particularly frustrating for Arsenal, given that Manchester City's decline provided a chance to break their two-year streak as runners-up.
After beating PSV 9-3 on aggregate, Arsenal are back in Premier League action on Sunday, March 16 when they meet Chelsea in a London derby at the Emirates Stadium.
