Crystal Palace's Irish-Nigeran striker scores on PL2 debut after training with first team
Published: April 07, 2023
Nigeria-eligible forward Franco Umeh-Chibueze scored on his Premier League 2 debut for Crystal Palace in the young Eagles' 3-1 defeat of Blackburn at the County Ground on Good Friday.
It was Blackburn U21s that took the lead through Harley O'Grady-Macken in the 16th minute.
Umeh, who came on as substitute for Danny Imray in the 74th minute, restored parity for the away side through a touch from fellow Nigerian, Victor Akinwale's pass, eight minutes before the end of the encounter
It would be the beginning of Crystal Palace resurgence as skipper Jack Wells-Morrison and Fionn Mooney would go on to score a goal apiece to hand the young Eagles the three maximum points.
It has been a dream week for Umeh, who had earlier trained with the first team before going on to score on his debut for Crystal Palace U21s.
The striker has also played for Crystal Palace U18s this season, scoring 3 goals in 6 appearances in the U18 Premier League.
Although Umeh is provisionally cap-tied to the Republic of Ireland, he remains eligible to represent the Flying Eagles though his father.
