Arsenal-owned Nigerian goalkeeper makes his league debut for SJK in win v Haka
Published: April 05, 2023
Arsenal-owned Nigerian goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri made his Veikkausliiga debut on Wednesday evening as SJK Seinäjoki secured a 2-1 win over FC Haka at the OmaSP Stadium on the opening day of the 2023 season.
The 2023 Flying Eagles invitee spent the first half of the season on loan at National League South club Chelmsford City before heading to SJK Seinäjoki in the January transfer window.
Ejeheri appeared in four competitive matches for SJK Seinäjoki in the Liigacup prior to his maiden game in the Finnish top-flight.
In today's fixture, SJK were quick out of the blocks with Jake Dunwoody breaking the deadlock inside two minutes.
Ejeheri has to wait for his first clean sheet in SJK colours as he conceded seven minutes into the second half when Ryan Mahuta equalized for the visitors.
The Hale End Academy product has conceded eight goals in his first five appearances for SJK Seinäjoki.
Kingsley Ofori scored what proved to be the match-winning goal midway through the second half.
Ejeheri was in contention to be included in Nigeria's squad list for the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations but eventually did not make the roster after his failure to attend a training camp in Abuja.
