Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah equals club record held by Nigeria legend

England U21 international of Ghanaian descent Eddie Nketiah netted twice in the opening ten minutes of the ongoing Premier League game between Arsenal and Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium in London.

And in doing so, he equaled a club record held by Nigeria legend Nwankwo Kanu, according to the statisticians at OPTA, becoming the second Arsenal player in history to net a brace in the opening ten minutes of a Premier League match.

Kanu netted in the third and ninth minute as the Gunners defeated Sunderland 3-1 at Highbury on October 6, 2002.

The 1996 Olympics gold medalist poked the ball home from two yards to open the scoring and doubled the advantage when he headed in an assist from Ashley Cole.

A two-time Premier League winner, Kanu netted three career goals against the Black Cats, with the other coming in the Stadium of Light on October 27, 2001.

In the ongoing game against Leeds United, Nketiah tapped in from close range after goalkeeper Illan Meslier failed to control a back pass in the fifth minute and made it 2-0 with a left-footed finish, assisted by Gabriel Martinelli, at minute 10.

Mikel Arteta' side are aiming to increase their goal difference before Thursday's north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
