Nigerian centre-back unused sub as Brighton set new club record in 4-0 rout of Manchester United
Published: May 07, 2022Manchester United will not be playing Champions League football next season after suffering a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove in a Premier League clash at the American Express Community Stadium on Saturday evening.
London-born Nigerian central defender Odel Offiah watched proceedings from the bench for the entirety of the contest - his seventh squad involvement for a Premier League game in 2021-2022.
The 19-year-old was spotted training with the Seagulls in their penultimate workout before the visit of the Red Devils.
When manager Graham Potter brought on Neal Maupay to replace Leandro Trossard in the 83rd minute - Brighton's third substitution - it meant Offiah wasn't going to make his Premier League bow.
Manchester United started slowly and got worse as the first half progressed, and conceded in the fifteenth minute when Moisés Caicedo, from outside the penalty area and through the legs of Victor Lindelof, drilled the ball into the bottom corner from 25 yards out.
Marc Cucurella hammered the ball into the roof of the net to double the advantage three minutes into the second half and Pascal Gross netted in the 57th minute to put the game beyond the reach of Manchester United.
There was still time for a fourth goal and it came from Trossard who diverted the ball into the net on the hour mark.
Today's victory over Manchester United saw Brighton secure their biggest ever top-flight win in their history.
