EPL wrap : Dennis, Ekong feature as Watford relegated; Southgate watches young Lion Chukwuemeka; Eze shines

Allnigeriasoccer.com's round-up of Nigeria-eligible players that were in action for their respective clubs in the English Premier League on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

Watford have been relegated from the top-flight after suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace.

Two Nigeria Football Federation targets Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise started a Premier League game together for the first time at Selhurst Park and both were impressive over the course of ninety minutes

Emmanuel Dennis was in the Hornets XI while international teammates Samuel Kalu, Oghenekaro Etebo and William Troost-Ekong were named on the bench.

Wilfried Zaha stepped up and converted a spot kick awarded after Hassane Kamara handled the ball in the area, though the Watford defender felt he was pushed in the back by Olise but the officials disagreed.

Kamara won't be playing against Everton in midweek after he was red carded in the 68th minute for a little nudge on Olise.

The ineffective Dennis was sacrificed for Adam Masina in the 73rd minute and five minutes later Roy Hodgson shored up the defence again by bringing on Troost-Ekong.

Frank Onyeka is sidelined by an ankle injury he picked up whilst on international duty in March, so was not named in Brentford's matchday squad in a 3-0 win against Southampton at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Pontus Jansson converted from close range to open the scoring in the 13th minute and in the space of a minute it was 2-0 as Yoane Wissa curled the ball inside the post from 20 yards out, before a second half goal from Kristoffer Ajer wrapped up the scoring.

Saints winger Nathan Tella would have made his fourteen appearance of the season had he featured but was a non-playing substitute.

England manager Gareth Southgate was at Turf Moor as Burnley were thrashed 3-1 by Aston Villa.

Carney Chukwuemeka, an England U19 international, entered the game as a substitute for the visitors with 22 minutes remaining but his teammate Tim Iroegbunam was a unused substitute, a week after making his full Premier League debut.

Danny Ings, Emiliano Buendia and Ollie Watkins were on target for Steven Gerrard's side before Maxwel Cornet pulled one back in stoppage time.

In the evening kickoff, central defender Odel Offiah is on the bench for Brighton & Hove against Manchester United at the American Express Community Stadium.
