Manchester City hero Onuoha gutted after Citizens didn't get the job done against Real Madrid
Published: May 05, 2022Manchester City hero Nedum Onuoha was disappointed in the aftermath of the Citizens' 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in a UEFA Champions League semifinal, second leg clash at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
Pep Guardiola's side thought they had the game under control as they were leading 1-0 with one minute remaining.
Algeria star Riyad Mahrez fired a shot into the top corner to give the away side the lead in the 73rd minute but Los Blancos came back from the dead as Rodrygo Goes struck twice within a minute to take the game to extra-time.
The Spanish champions booked their place in the showpiece in Paris thanks to a player in-form Karim Benzema, who converted a spot kick in the 94th minute.
Onuoha thought Manchester City would get over the line after Mahrez's goal and highlighted that they did not manage the game well.
"I’m just gutted. You want to try and talk and make sense of it, but the emotion is definitely there," Onuoha said on Manchester City's Matchday Live.
"We were a bit sloppy in the second half, but when Riyad scores that goal you trust them to take it over the line. To then end up going to extra-time, it makes you sad.
"This is the downside of cup competitions; you are one results from it being over."
Onuoha added : "For the guys, they are going to have to take this in. Real Madrid have that history.

"They are no mugs, but if you have a 1-0 lead at the Bernabeu and you are Manchester City and you have ambitions of making it to the Champions League final, you need to be able to manage those moments.
"I think overall, they probably didn’t do that."
In a repeat of the 2018 final in Kyiv, Liverpool will be meeting Real Madrid in this season's showpiece on May 28, 2022.
