PL2 : Brighton's Nigerian defender gives away a penalty in loss to Chelsea
Published: April 26, 2022Chelsea eased their relegation fears by beating Brighton & Hove 2-1 at the Amex Stadium on Monday evening.
Nigerian right-back Odel Offiah continues to get game time with Brighton's development squad while training with the senior team.
The talented teenager was an unused substitute for the Seagulls in their last five games in the Premier League, against Norwich City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Southampton.
In the 31st minute, the Blues took the lead as Lewis Hall headed in at the far post after a cross from Josh Brooking, and the goalscorer was booked four minutes later for bringing down Offiah.
The referee awarded a penalty to Chelsea after Offiah brought down Vale in the box sixteen minutes from time.
After Jayden Wareham converted the spot kick, Andrew Moran halved the deficit in the 81st minute to set up a nervy ending to the game but Chelsea held on for three points.
This season, Offiah made his debuts for Brighton & Hove in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, and has 20 games under his belt in the Premier League 2.
