Awoniyi cheaper than expected after Bild update, release clause revealed amid EPL interest
Published: April 21, 2022Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi is cheaper than the 30 million euros being bandied around by the media.
Fussball Transfers, making reference to authoritative German newspaper Bild, says the Nigeria international has a release clause of 20 million euros (approximately N9 billion in Nigerian currency).
Awoniyi has emerged as a transfer target for Premier League clubs, with Southampton, Newcastle United and West Ham United mentioned as possible destinations.
Given the attacker's exploits in the Bundesliga this season and his potential resale value, this is a bargain fee for the 24-year-old who joined Union Berlin from Liverpool last July in exchange for €6.5 million.
The 2013 U17 World Cup winner has put himself in the shop window after a series of impressive performances for Union Berlin, with 18 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.
When Awoniyi found the net against Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend, he took his tally in the Bundesliga to thirteen, setting a new club record for top-flight goals in a single season in the process.
