Lookman scores for third consecutive league start as Newcastle steal all three points vs Leicester
Published: April 17, 2022Leicester City winger Ademola Lookman was on the scoresheet Sunday afternoon but it proved to be inconsequential as the 2015/2016 Premier League champions were defeated 2-1 by Newcastle United at St. James' Park.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall delivered a low cross towards the near post which Ayoze Perez flicked with a cheeky back heel onto the path of the Nigerian who drilled a shot that Martin Dubravka could only get a hand on but unable to keep out.
Newcastle United were made to wait for VAR's confirmation before they could celebrate Bruno Guimaraes' goal with half an hour played as he was initially deemed to have knocked the ball out of the grasps of Kasper Schmeichel.
Lookman was replaced by Harvey Barnes in the 66th minute. His international teammate, Kelechi Iheanacho, was introduced twelve minutes later in place of Patson Daka.
The Super Eagles star was presented with a chance to put the Foxes ahead again with five minutes left on the clock but his flicked effort at the near post was blocked by Matt Targett before Dubravka gathered the ball.
Iheanacho won a free-kick for his team a minute earlier when Emil Krafth pulled his shirt as he broke loose.
Guimaraes made it safe for the struggling Toons in added time with a perfect header as Newcastle launched a counter attack against the sloppy Leicester defence.
