Excellent Lookman on target but Leicester are beaten by Wolverhampton Wanderers
Published: February 20, 2022
Leicester City are without a Premier League win in 2022 after losing 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium in the West Midlands on Sunday evening.
Both Wilfred Ndidi and Super Eagles hopeful Ademola Lookman started for the Foxes but Kelechi Iheanacho continues to play second fiddle to Patson Daka in the absence of the injured Jamie Vardy, with the number 14 starting on the bench.
A breathless first half ended with the two teams level as the lively Lookman tapped into the net to cancel out RĂºben Neves' opener.
Neves got Wolves to a terrific start with a brilliant shot which beat goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the ninth minute but the Foxes responded and got their reward as Youri Tielemans found a moment of class to thread Marc Albrighton through to set up Lookman for a deserved equaliser in the 41st minute.
Leicester City, who started the second half excellently, found themselves behind again, albeit against the run of play, as Daniel Podence drilled a shot into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.
In a double substitution, Ndidi and Daka made way for James Maddison and Iheanacho in the 73rd minute.
Time ran out for Leicester City to claim something from the game but Maddison came close to restoring parity more than once.
