'He's really good' - Feyenoord striker reveals his admiration for ex-Arsenal & Man Utd star RVP
Published: January 26, 2022Feyenoord's Cyriel Dessers has revealed his admiration for former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, branding the iconic retired Netherlands international 'really good'.
Van Persie is the top Dutch goalscorer in Premier League history with 144 goals combined for Arsenal and Manchester United and is the first Dutch player to score in three successive World Cups - 2006, 2010 and 2014.
The 38-year-old is back at Feyenoord, where he began his professional career, and coaches the first team strikers at the Rotterdam outfit, including Dessers.
Racing Genk-owned Dessers has been enjoying a new lease of life since his loan move to the
Eredivisie giants in the summer transfer window, scoring nine goals in 23 outings mostly from the
bench, and has credited Van Persie for his outstanding form.
Speaking on Sporza's Extra Time program on Monday, Dessers stated : "He's really good. We work on small things, such as assumptions in the sixteen meters, turning away...
"Then you think: when do you use that? A week later, I score twice in the same way.
"Then you think: that is really crazy, because he teaches you that. When he tells things from his own past, you listen open-mouthed."
Dessers was controversially left out of the Super Eagles squad to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations despite the unavailability of strikers Victor Osimhen, Odion Ighalo, Paul Onuachu and Emmanuel Dennis.
