Chelsea's Anglo-Nigerian striker names Liverpool and Arsenal icons as his idols growing up
Published: January 22, 2022Talented striker of Nigerian descent Louis Flower has named Liverpool icon Fernando Torres and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as his football idols growing up.
The two attackers won the World Cup with their respective European nations before hanging up their boots.
Frenchman Henry and Spaniard Torres established themselves as Premier League legends after 175 and 85 goals respectively in the top-flight.
Described as a tall and strong forward, the 17-year-old Flower earned a move to Chelsea at U13 level from Cambridge United and signed his first professional contract in October 2021 after beginning the season as a first-year scholar.
Asked how he got into football and his football idols growing up, Flower said to Chelsea's official website : "Pretty much the same for me. Football has been a huge part of my life.
"Growing up, I would say that Fernando Torres and Thierry Henry were who I looked up to because they scored lots of goals."
Flower explained why he would love to be mentored by Chelsea's record acquisition in history, Romelu Lukaku.
"For me it would definitely be Romelu Lukaku. He would improve my hold-up play as a player so much, especially considering that is one of the areas I have been trying to improve on the training ground," he said.
Flower made his debut in the UEFA Youth League, U18 Premier League, Papa John's Trophy and FA Youth Cup in the current season and has tallied three goals.
