Watford new hero Dennis scores again, Troost-Ekong the villain in 2-1 loss to Brentford
Published: December 10, 2021Despite taking the lead, Watford suffered their fourth consecutive defeat on Friday night, losing 2-1 to Brentford in a Premier League clash at the Brentford Community Stadium.
There were starts for Super Eagles duo Emmanuel Dennis and William Troost-Ekong, while Frank Onyeka came off the bench with thirteen minutes remaining on the clock.
The Bees were in the front foot in the opening minutes of the contest but against the run of play the Hornets broke the deadlock through Emmanuel Dennis in the 24th minute.
The Nigeria international headed home, assisted by Tom Cleverley, after no one picked him up in the build-up to the goal.
It was Dennis's 12th goal involvement (7 goals, 5 assists) of the season, bettered only by Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah (22).
Brentford had to wait for an hour for an equaliser and it came from Pontus Jansson, who nicked in between two Watford players including Troost-Ekong and headed the ball into the net from close range.
In the fourth minute of stoppage time of an absolving second half, Brentford got a chance to win it at the death; the referee awarded a penalty after a silly challenge by Troost-Ekong on Saman Ghoddos.
Bryan Mbeumo kept his nerve to convert from 12 yards and hand the Bees all three points.
