Three Nigerian players to miss Napoli vs Leicester City Europa League clash
Published: December 09, 2021Three Nigerian players will completely miss out on the matchday squad on Thursday evening when Napoli take on Leicester City at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in the Europa League.
It was already known that Napoli striker Victor Osimhen wasn't going to play a part against the Premier League opponents even though he reported for training on Wednesday.
Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers revealed at the pre-match press conference that seven of his players didn't travel with the team to Naples due to a combination of illness and Covid-19 related absence.
The Northern Irishman didn't reveal the identities of the absent players but informed journalists at the presser that the players who didn't train at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona are in the group left behind in England.
Allnigeriasoccer.com previously reported that Wilfred Ndidi is at the disposal of Rodgers and it is confirmed that the holding midfielder took part in yesterday's training session on Italian soil.
Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho and RB Leipzig loanee Ademola Lookman were not pictured in any of the training images, putting their participation in doubt.
According to LeicestershireLive, Iheanacho and Lookman are among the Leicester City players who were forced to stay at home following a bout of Covid and illness in the club's ranks.
Leicester City head into the fixture top of Group C with eight points,
one more than Spartak Moscow and Napoli, and two ahead of bottom team
Legia Warsaw.
