Ex-Chelsea chief Emenalo declines Newcastle United director of football job offer
Ex-Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo has reportedly rejected a proposal to become Newcastle United's director of football.

The Sun UK citing Telegraph says Emenalo decided the role wasn't a good fit and the Magpies don't match his ambitious plans.

The former Nigeria international was the favourite for the Newcastle United director of football job on the back of his previous success in a similar role at Premier League giants Chelsea.

Emenalo traveled to Saudi Arabia for talks with Newcastle United higher-ups and after detailed negotiations with director Amanda Staveley, he declined the offer.

It is claimed that the Nigerian rejecting the offer is not related to Newcastle United's position in the Premier League table with the club battling relegation fifteen matches into the season.

The news is a blow to Newcastle less than four weeks before the opening of the January transfer window.

One of Roman Abramovich's trusted lieutenants during his ten-year association with the Blues, Emenalo oversaw the signings of 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winners Kenneth Omeruo and Victor Moses.

The respected 56-year-old talent spotter has been out of work since leaving Monaco in 2019.
