Arsenal's Nigerian-born midfielder reacts to win vs Ipswich Town in EFL Trophy
Published: December 03, 2021Nigerian-born midfielder Tim Akinola has taken to social media to react to Arsenal's win on penalties against the first team of League One club Ipswich Town in the EFL Trophy on Wednesday night.
The Gunners U21s are through to the last sixteen after prevailing 4-3 on penalties, following a 2-2 draw in ninety minutes of play.
Akinola and three other players of Nigerian descent goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri, Mazeed
Ogungbo and Folarin Balogun put in a full shift for Arsenal; Ryan Alebiosu entered the game as a substitute in the
89th minute; James Olayinka and Joel Ideho were non-playing
substitutes.
The Tractor Boys took the lead through Kaydon Jackson in the 31st minute and the same player doubled the advantage just before halftime.
In the 68th minute, the visitors pulled a goal back as Kane
Vincent-Young headed the ball into his own net following a a corner
kick and Balogun continued his excellent form when he restored parity three minutes later
Writing on Instagram on Thursday, Akinola stated : "Important win last night, through to the next round we thank God".
Arsenal will discover their opponents in the last sixteen of the EFL Trophy on Saturday, December 4 when the draw takes place.
