'It Is An Amazing Feeling' - Youngest Nigerian Player To Score Ligue 1 Hat-trick Reacts
Published: December 04, 2019Former Sunderland striker Josh Maja netted his first career hat-trick in the colours of Bordeaux as they hammered Nimes 6-0 at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique on Tuesday night.
Retired Nigeria internationals Victor Agali, John Utaka and Peter Odemwingie previously netted hat-tricks in the French Ligue 1 but were all older than Maja when they achieved the feat.
Aged 20 years, 11 months and 6 days, Maja entered into the history books as the youngest Nigerian player to net a treble in Ligue 1 after getting on the scoresheet in the 24th, 37th and 53rd minutes of the contest vs Nimes.
The Bordeaux number 9 was happy to score a hat-trick for the first time in his career and planned to speak with his family about his achievement.
Speaking to Canal+ Television post-match, Maja said : ''It is an amazing feeling, I can't really describe it because I don't think it has sunk in yet and I think once I get home and I speak to my family and I realize what I have done I will be even more happy''.
Maja had scored only 3 goals in 20 league appearances for Bordeaux prior to his hat-trick vs Nimes.
