Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi found the back of the net on Tuesday night in a thrilling FA Cup between Nottingham Forest against Exeter City at St. James' Park.
Awoniyi netted the second goal as Nottingham Forest were held in a 2-2 draw at the end of regular time. Forest then advanced to the fifth round after winning 4-2 in the penalty shootout.
The Nigerian International, who has faced challenges this season, showcased his striking prowess with a stunning goal just before halftime.
After Exeter's Josh Magennis opened the scoring, Ramon Sosa quickly equalized for Forest in the 15th minute.
Awoniyi then turned the tide for his side with a superb finish; with his back to goal and under pressure from four defenders, he spun and curled a low shot from 20 yards, leaving Exeter's goalkeeper Joe Whitworth with no chance.
However, the match took a twist when another goal from Magennis leveled the score after a mistake by Forest's goalkeeper Carlos Miguel during a corner kick.
Despite the setback, Awoniyi's performance was a highlight, especially considering he had only managed one goal in his previous 21 appearances this season.
This vital contribution could be a turning point for the Nigerian international, who has been second choice behind Chris Wood.
Awoniyi will undoubtedly be eager to build on this momentum as he seeks to earn a call-up to the Super Eagles ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March.
With his recent performance, he may have just positioned himself back into contention for international duty.
Nottingham Forest will host Ipswich Town in round five of the Emirates FA Cup.
