With 11 goals in 15 appearances in the Dutch Eredivisie, Heracles Almelo number 9, Cyriel Dessers is the leading Nigerian scorer in the European Leagues.
Also eligible for the Red Devils, Dessers is aware that he has a slim chance of playing for his country of birth as they have several world-class strikers in their ranks, so he has set his sights on being a Super Eagle.
The 24-year-old has revealed that he was contacted by Nigeria's assistant coach after contributing to three goals (2 goals, 1 assist) in last weekend's 4-0 rout of ADO Den Haag.
''There has already been contact with the Nigerian association. After the match against ADO Den Haag, the assistant from Nigeria sent me a message that I was doing well,'' Desssers said to Sporza.
''But that is not going to be easy either. There are 300 million Nigerians worldwide."
Born to a Belgian dad and Nigerian mother, Dessers confessed that he has never visited Nigeria and is targeting a call-up to the Super Eagles even if it's for a non-competitive match.
''I have never been to Nigeria, also because the political situation has not been so calm in recent years. The last year it is only slightly better.
''I would like to go there and it would be twice as nice to do that to If only to play a practice game against Madagascar or Mauritius,'' he concluded.
