The Italian Football Federation are now in pole position for the services of one of the most talented young Nigeria-eligible central defenders, Atalanta's Caleb Okoli, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Okoli, 18, became provisionally cap-ted to the Azurri when he was included in Alberto Bollini's starting XI for Italy's UEFA U19 Championship qualifier against Malta on November 13th, donning the shirt No. 5 while in action.
He went on to add to his youth caps during the international break, going the distance for the team in their wins over Cyprus and Slovakia, and their defence was not breached in any of those three games he played in.
Okoli is a rugged defender and stands out as a physical player who is positionally aware, sound in aerial duels and very strong in his tackles, qualities which have made him to be likened to Super Eagles and Inter Milan legend Taribo West.
It is believed the youngster is on the cusp of his Serie A debut for Atalanta, as he has trained with the senior team on a number of occasions and had even made match day squad against Juventus this term.
Born in Vicenza, he starred against Manchester City in a 3-1 UYL win last month.
