Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr singled out Torino defender Ola Aina and Bordeaux winger Samuel Kalu for special praise following his side's 2-1 victory against Benin in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Wednesday.
Aina and Kalu returned to the starting line-up having missed the team's last international friendly against Brazil due to injuries and they gave a good account of themselves.
The Chelsea Academy product won the penalty converted by Victor Osimhen on the stroke of half-time and his defending was assured as well as his forays going forward.
With the scoreboard reading 1-1 at minute 63, Kalu took matters into his own hands, taking on the opposition defence in breathtaking style before bending a low shot into the bottom left corner, which proved to be the game-winning goal.
Speaking post-match, Rohr told reporters including allnigeriasoccer.com : ''I am happy to see also that the two changes I made since the Brazil game, bringing in Ola Aina and Kalu, the two players did very well also.
''It is good for the team to know that even other players can come, there's competition for the starting positions and this is very good for us.''
Aina made his ninth competitive appearance for the Super Eagles against Benin while Kalu played his eighth game.
