Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Dennis scored two first half goals as the Belgian First Division A team were held to a 2-2 draw by Real Madrid in a Champions League clash at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
In doing so, he became the third Nigerian player to score against Real Madrid in the Champions League after James Obiora and Ayila Yussuf.
Wearing the colours of Lokomotiv Moscow, Obiora became the first Nigerian player to find the net against Los Blancos on December 11, 2002 and two years later Dynamo Kiev's Yussuf matched the goalscoring feat.
Dennis entered into the history books by becoming the only Nigerian player to have scored more than one goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
The first goal scored by the former Nigeria U15 international was timed at 8 minutes, 9 seconds, making him the fastest player to score a Champions League goal for Club Brugge, something other Nigerian-born goalscorers Daniel Amokachi and Arnaut Danjuma did not manage.
Amokachi got on the scoresheet in the 16th minute vs CSKA Moscow and Danjuma's brilliant strike vs Atlético Madrid last season was timed at 39 minutes.
Following his brace against Real Madrid, Dennis is now the highest scoring Nigerian for Club Brugge in the Champions League, overtaking Daniel Amokachi.
In the three games Nigerian players managed to score against Real Madrid in the Champions League, the matches ended in 2-2 draws with the Spanish side having to come from behind to salvage a point on each occasion.
