Team Of The Week Honours For Super Eagles Star Mikel In Portugal
Published: September 16, 2019Super Eagles star Mikel Agu has earned a place in Whoscored.com's Liga NOS Team Of The Week, thanks to his impressive display in the last round of matches in the Portuguese top-flight.
The central midfielder caught the eye on his full debut for Vitoria Guimaraes as they hammered Desportivo Aves 5-1 at the Estádio Dom Afonso Henriques on Saturday.
Eleven minutes into the contest, Mikel created the opening goal scored by André Pereira.
Three Vitoria Guimaraes players were selected in the Team of the Week and Mikel was the top rated of the trio with a rating of 8.5.
Mikel was very good defensively against Desportivo Aves, winning an impressive eight aerial duels and had a team-high three tackles, three interceptions and three clearances, but also had a shot on target, made two key passes and completed one dribble.
In the Team of the Week, he was partnered in a four-man midfield by Patrick (C.D. Santa Clara), Lucas Evangelista (Vitoria Guimaraes) and Martins (F.C. Famalicão).
Mikel's other appearances for Vitoria Guimaraes were against Jeunesse Esch in the second qualifying round of the Europa League and Rio Ave in the Primeira Liga.
