Rohr On South Africa's Defensive Wall : Eagles Would Like To Be The First Team To Score Against Them
Published: November 16, 2018Gernot Rohr has acknowledged that South Africa have not conceded a goal after four matches in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying but hopes their clean sheet run will end on Saturday afternoon.
With one point from their next fixture, the Super Eagles will be the first team in Group E to qualify for next year's tournament in Cameroon but the German football tactician has thrown caution to the wind and is targeting a win.
Of the 48 countries still participating in the AFCON qualifiers, only South Africa and Uganda, Nigeria's opponents in November, have kept the opposition strikers quiet.
''I’ve noted South Africa haven’t conceded any goals, so we would like to be the first team to score a goal against them,'' Rohr told reporters.
''We’re coming here not to play for a draw, which could be enough already for us to qualify, but to try and win.
''We have wonderful conditions to play in, so the players will enjoy it.''
Rohr will not be able to call upon the leading marksman in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Odion Ighalo, who had to withdraw from the squad due to a hamstring complaint.
