Ex-Nigeria Coach Siasia Points Out Egypt Weaknesses In Loss To Uruguay
Published: June 15, 2018Former Nigeria coach Samson Siasia has pointed out Egypt weaknesses in the wake of their 1-0 loss to two-time world champions Uruguay on Friday afternoon in both countries World Cup opener at Ekaterinburg Arena.
The game was goalless until the 90th minute when Atlético Madrid defender José Giménez scored with a header after Carlos Sanchez crossed the ball into the box.
Dutch referee Björn Kuipers awarded a free-kick to the South Americans after Al-Fateh defender Mohamed Abdel-Shafy tripped Jose Gimenez, and Siasia has explained why the Egyptians should have avoided committing that foul.
Speaking as a pundit on South African TV channel SuperSport, Siasia said : ''Was it 89th minute they scored? I want to say they gave a good account of themselves.
''Going forward, they didn't do anything that much because the striker wasn't very good, also going forward they didn't create enough chances to do anything against the Uruguayans.
''In the last minute, the header from Gimenez was a killer, they deserve to win the game.
''Free-kicks these days are like penalties you cannot commit fouls, they did a good job pending committing that foul.''

In their next fixture in Group A, Egypt face hosts Russia at the Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg on June 19 and they would be eliminated from the competition after only six days if Uruguay beat Saudi Arabia the following day.
