'New Obi Mikel' Helps Chelsea Youngsters Win Fourth Trophy Of The Season
Published: May 05, 2018Chelsea were crowned the U18 Premier League champions after routing Manchester United 3-0 in the final of the national U18 Premier League at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
While Chelsea's immensely talented Nigerian winger, Faustino Anjorin who is away on international duty for England U17s was not in the squad for Joddy Morris's side, his compatriot, Tariq Uwakwe, dubbed the new Obi Mikel, was named among the substitutes for the game.
In Chelsea's victorious U18 Premier League South adventure of the just concluded season, the 16-year old Anjorin played 14 games, scoring five goals including one in the 5-1 thrashing of West Ham to finish as league winners and clinch their place in this game while Uwakwe was afforded 15 outings, reciprocating with three goals.
Uwakwe replaced Callum Hudson-Odoi after 75 minutes, with the game almost winding down but still managed some last-ditch flashes of his brilliance.
Goals from Dujon Sterling after four minutes alongside further ones from Billy Gilmour and Tariq Lamptey in the second period saw off the young Red Devils and cart home the ultimate prize.
With the victory, Chelsea are thus crowned national U18 champions for the second season in a row and have as well, completed an unprecedented and historic quadruple, winning the FA Youth Cup, the U18 Premier League Cup, the U18 Premier League South crown and also the national U18 title.
