The Advice Liverpool Legend Offered To Adekanye Before Penalty Against Manchester City
Published: March 15, 2018Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has revealed that he offered advice to Bobby Adekanye, Adam Lewis, Curtis Jones, Conor Masterson and Herbie Kane before the penalty shootout against Manchester City in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday.
Of the five penalty kick takers for the Reds, only Adekanye and Lewis converted from twelve yards, while City were more successful with only Edward Francis failing to score.
In an interview with Liverpool's official website, Gerrard said: ''I said to them before the shootout, 'Make your decision, your decision's got to be yours, and just make sure you don't change your mind when you run up'.
"That's the only thing I've learnt over the years from taking penalties: you come unstuck when you change your mind.
"But their penalties were better than ours and their 'keeper has made saves, that's the way it is, but you're not going to criticise anyone for that."
Adekanye is Nigeria's most clinical player in this season's UEFA Youth League with three goals to his name ahead of Basel's Noah Okafor and Man City's Lukas Nmecha who tallied two goals each.
