'New Mikel' Notches Assist As Chelsea U18 Rout Brighton & Hove
Published: March 09, 2018England youth international of Nigerian descent Tariq Uwakwe impressed once again as Chelsea U18s thrashed Brighton & Hove 4-1 in the U18 Premier League on Friday evening.
The central midfielder played the full ninety for the Young Blues while teammate Faustino Anjorin was not selected by manager Jody Morris for the second consecutive league game.
The Seagulls fell behind to Charlie Brown's strike on 24 minutes and could not find a way back into the game at the end of the first half, with Gilmour and McEachran increasing the lead.
Uwakwe would have added to the scoreline after the restart but his speculative effort failed to beat goalkeeper Thomas McGill.
But he turned provider minutes later to set up Clinton Mola for Chelsea's fourth goal, before Cashman grabbed a consolation goal for the losers in the closing minutes of the contest.
The 18-year-old Uwakwe was open to playing for Nigeria's youth teams before he was handed an initial call up to England's U18 team in 2016.
The London native has been on the books of Chelsea for more than ten years, having joined the club at U8 level.
