Nigerian Defender, Labelled The New Dani Alves, Showing His Versatility For Man Utd
Published: February 25, 2018In a tumultuous campaign which has been riddled with inefficiency on the part of Manchester United's U23 team, it is worth noting that American-born Nigerian defensive stalwart, Matthew Olosunde has stood out as one of the shining
lights for the young Red Devils in an otherwise dismal campaign.
After 17 games, Manchester United are rock bottom of the Premier 2 in their division though what had precisely been their bane is their inability to pick up victories and not necessarily their weakness in avoiding defeats.
As for the 19-year old who is very close to his first team debut, his versatility across the backline in any sort of defensive setup and even further forward in midfield stands him in good stead.
This season has seen the defender turn out competently in not less than four positions and it is a huge pointer to why his services remain in the trust of the club.
A right back by trade Olosunde, who has been likened to PSG star Dani Alves, is becoming quite the handyman in any position he is deployed to marshal.
After taking his last two shifts at left back, he has now started at four positions for the reserves this term.
Wins could have peppered up his good performances and self-sacrifice for the team but none seem to be coming — Manchester United's U23 are actually yet to win a league game since October, 2017.
It is a huge asset for a player to be able to adapt in every position he finds himself and in Olosunde, Manchester United do have precisely that sort of player, ever-ready for the rough and tumble nature of the English game.
If first-team manager, Jose Mourinho soon deems it fit to include the youngster in any of the glamour games in the topflight, he would be rest assured Olosunde would be ready to play in any part of the turf he wants him to, be it central defence, right-back, left-back and even stationed further down the right channel in midfield.
