Chelsea 3 Newcastle 0: Moses On The Bench As Chelsea Set New Record In England
Published: January 28, 2018Chelsea returned to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Newcastle in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Super Eagle Victor Moses was rested for the game though he was named among the substitutes.
Marcos Alonso opened up the Newcastle defence with a sublime throughball to set up Michy Batshuayi who was left with a simple task of turning his strike into an empty net after 31 minutes of play.
The Belgian doubled his side's advantage on the brink of half time, taking a pass from Eden Hazard to strike at goal with Jamaal Lascelles's block not able to prevent the ball from trickling over the line.
Alonso curled in a stunning freekick from some distance 18 minutes from time with Karl Darlow denying Batshuayi a hattrick on the stroke of full time as Chelsea marched into the next round of the competition.
It would have been Moses's 23rd appearance for the Blues in all competitions if he had featured against the Magpies.
According to the statisticians at OPTA, Chelsea today became the first English top-flight side to field more than one player born in the 21st century in a single domestic match (Ethan Ampadu and Callum Hudson-Odoi).
