Ex New Nigeria Bank Goalie Wilfred Agbonavbare Loses Battle With Cancer
Published: January 27, 2015Retired Nigeria international Wilfred Agbonavbare died on Tuesday morning at the age of 48 after suffering from cancer.
The former Rayo Vallecano goalie was admitted at the Prince of Asturias Hospital in Alcalá de Henares, and his last wish before he died was to see his three children.
And despite the efforts of Rayo official, who contacted the Spanish embassy to fast-track their visa applications, they did not arrive Spain before he departed this sinful world to the great beyond.
“The Stingray is in mourning. The cancer has finally led to Wilfred who died early this morning.
“Tomorrow from 9:30 h those wishing to bid farewell to Wilfred can do so at the Funeral Garden . Road Pastrana,” Rayo Vallecano said on their official Twitter account.
A product of New Nigeria Bank, Wilfred Agbonavbare also played for Brentford and Ecija Balompie before he retired.
He made Clemens Westerhof’s squad list for the 1994 African Cup of Nations and World Cup held in the USA.
