Fear clause: Valencia must pay Real Sociedad N0.5b for Sadiq to play against parent club
Published: January 15, 2025Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq is likely to be unavailable for selection for Valencia ahead of their La Liga clash against his parent club Real Sociedad on Sunday due to a clause in his loan agreement.
The Nigerian international's loan deal with Valencia includes a clause that requires the club to pay €300,000 (approximately ₦0.5b) for him to face Real Sociedad, according to Spanish sports daily Marca.
Valencia manager Carlos Corberán started Sadiq in Tuesday's Copa del Rey Round of 16 tie against Ourense, amid growing uncertainty over his availability for the weekend's league fixture.
The 27-year-old striker opened his goal account for Valencia in the Copa del Rey match, scoring in their 2-0 victory over Ourense FC.
Sadiq's goal sealed the win for Valencia, after an earlier own goal by Francisco Carmona had given them the lead.
The Nigerian international finished brilliantly after a precise assist from Sergi Canós set him up for the goal.
Sadiq had earlier come close to scoring in the 65th minute when his effort struck the post.
The 2016 Olympics bronze medalist joined Valencia on loan from Real Sociedad in January, and his impressive performance against Ourense FC has only added to the speculation surrounding his availability for Sunday's match.
The former AS Roma man has struggled for consistent playing time since recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and his loan move to Valencia was seen as an opportunity for him to regain his form.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his availability for Sunday's match, Sadiq's impressive performance against Ourense FC has given Valencia fans reason to be optimistic about his potential impact on the team.
However, the fear clause in his loan agreement has cast a shadow over his participation in the match against Real Sociedad.
