Obafemi Martins Scoops Goal Of The Year Award
Published: December 06, 2014Obafemi Martins’s stunning strike against San Jose Earthquakes has been voted the 2014 AT&T MLS Goal of the Year.
The former Nigeria international polled more than 50 percent of the votes cast, beating off competition from Portland Timbers midfielder Will Johnson (28.23 %), ex Arsenal icon Thierry Henry (13.22%) and New England Revolution ace Lee Nguyen (6.73 %) .
The 30 - year - old struck after 8 minutes to hand Seattle Sounders all three points in a week 11 tie at CenturyLink Field.
That strike was the most eye catching out of the 64 goals that were selected by MLS staff and voted on by fans.
The ex Inter Milan and Newcastle star missed out on the MLS MVP award to LA Galaxy striker Robbie Keane.
