Ex Orlando Pirates Coach, Viktor Bondarenko: Eagles Attack Was Impressive
Published: January 23, 2013Russian football expert Viktor Bondarenko - who has experience coaching teams in South Africa, Egypt, Mozambique and Angola - has commented on the game between the Super Eagles and Stallions.
Nigeria were leading Burkina Faso by the odd goal until they conceded an injury time equalizer, four minutes into stoppage time.
''Nigeria played well in the first half. Moreover, the three players from the old Soviet Union - Ahmed Musa, Emenike and Brown Ideye - played quick purposeful football. But in the second half , they changed their tactics and the removal of the defender. Room to break was not there.,'' Bondarenko was quoted as saying by the Ukrainian edition of Sport Express.
Furthermore, the ex Orlando Pirates handler said Nigeria were punished because the team wanted to play defensively.
He said: ''They paid for it. The god of football punished them. On the whole, Nigeria like to be mobile. Their coach Stephen Keshi was criticized for choosing some certain players, but the team's attack was very impressive.''
Speaking on the Eagles next opponents Zambia, Bondarenko said: ''They played weak. Last year, they were lucky. They are now trying to confirm their reputation, but on the average are not having good results. Zambians should still be thankful that the Ethiopians did not score from the penalty spot.''
