Agent provides update on 37yo Super Falcons goalkeeper amid retirement rumours
Published: January 08, 2025Allnigeriasoccer.com can confirm that veteran Super Falcons goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi, has ended her association with Saudi Women's Premier League side Eastern Flames.
Oluehi who represented Nigeria at this year's Olympics, has been inactive at club level since before the tournament, sparking concerns about her whereabouts.
The 37-year-old last featured for Eastern Flames on April 19 last year, logging just 26 minutes in her side's heavy 5-0 defeat to Al Hilal on match day thirteen of the league.
She was then named on the bench in their next league game against Al Qadsiah, before departing her club to join the Super Falcons camp in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The nine-time African queens were eventually eliminated in the group stages of the tournament after failing to win any of their three games in a group that contained world champions Spain, and women's football giants Brazil and Japan.
Oluehi did not register any minute for Nigeria at the tournament, as she remained the deputy to reigning CAF Women's Goalkeeper of the year, Chiamaka Nnadozie.
Since the conclusion of the global showpiece, the Rivers Angels alum has not been named in any of Eastern Flames's match day squads.
This prolonged absence had even fueled speculations of her retirement from professional football.
However, her agent revealed in a chat that she is currently spending time with her family, stating that she is no longer a player for the Saudi club and is currently a free agent.
"She is no longer with Eastern Flames and is currently spending time with her family," Oluehi's agent told allnigeriasoccer.com.
When quizzed about her next move, the player's agent was unresponsive. Nonetheless, it is hoped that the player would be returning to club football anytime soon.
The shot-stopper who was the heroine for the Super Falcons when they clinched their ninth WAFCON title in 2018, recently made the headlines in October 2023 when her international teammate Ashleigh Plumptre, put three goals past her on her debut for Al Ittihad.
Oluehi has represented Nigeria at four World Cups in 2007, 2011, 2019 and 2023 respectively, earning minutes at the 2019 edition in Canada.
She was also a member of the squads for four WAFCON tournaments in 2010, 2012, 2018, and 2022, and the only surviving member of the Super Falcons roster from the 2008 Beijing Olympics to make the squad for this year's Olympics.
